The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) recently issued an Approval in Principle (AiP) for the fundamental design of a 12,000-cubic-meter LNG bunkering articulated tug-barge (ATB). This joint design was developed by Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and Conrad Shipyard. The AiP confirms that the design meets ABS's safety and technical standards, paving the way for potential construction.
This development is significant as the maritime industry increasingly adopts liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a cleaner alternative fuel to reduce emissions.
