United European Car Carriers (UECC) highlights that its strategic decision a decade ago to invest in dual-fuel LNG-powered vessels has placed the company in a strong position to comply with upcoming environmental regulations, particularly the FuelEU Maritime initiative. This foresight has allowed UECC to proactively reduce its carbon footprint.
Over the past year, UECC has more than doubled the share of bio-LNG in its total LNG consumption, reaching 71%. This shift towards bio-LNG, a renewable fuel, is a key factor in accelerating the emissions reductions across its fleet, demonstrating a tangible commitment to sustainability.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signals a carrier that is well-prepared for evolving environmental mandates. Shippers utilizing UECC's services can benefit from a more sustainable supply chain, potentially helping them meet their own Scope 3 emissions targets. This proactive approach by a carrier could also lead to more stable operational costs related to fuel and compliance, reducing the risk of surcharges associated with non-compliance as new regulations like FuelEU Maritime take effect.
