Trident Aqua Services has finalized an agreement with the Norwegian seafood group Hofseth for the provision and management of two advanced battery-hybrid vessels. These new ships, named Multi Storfjord and Multi Navigator, are specifically designed to support Hofseth's aquaculture activities. Developed by Solstrand Trading and constructed at Sletta Verft, the vessels prioritize operational efficiency, electric propulsion, and strict biosecurity measures.
The Multi Storfjord is equipped with a 1500 kWh battery system, while the Multi Navigator features a 1125 kWh battery pack. This allows both vessels to run exclusively on battery power for an entire 12-hour operational period daily. This move aligns with broader industry trends towards decarbonization and sustainable maritime practices.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development highlights the increasing adoption of hybrid and electric propulsion in specialized maritime sectors. While not directly impacting container or bulk cargo rates, it signals a growing demand for green logistics solutions and potentially influences the availability of specialized vessels in niche markets. Forwarders handling aquaculture-related shipments may see enhanced reliability and reduced environmental footprints in their supply chains.
