Marine technology providers StormGeo and OceanScore have deepened their existing cooperation by signing a new collaboration agreement during the Posidonia event in Athens. This partnership aims to assist shipping companies in navigating the complex landscape of maritime emissions regulations more efficiently.
The collaboration combines StormGeo's extensive knowledge in operational vessel data and emissions monitoring with OceanScore's specialized expertise in emissions compliance workflows. Their joint efforts will address requirements stemming from the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), FuelEU Maritime (FEUM), and upcoming UK ETS regulations.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this development signifies a potential improvement in the transparency and management of emissions-related costs. By streamlining compliance processes, carriers may experience reduced administrative burdens, which could indirectly contribute to more stable or predictable surcharges related to environmental regulations. Enhanced data validation and compliance exposure management could lead to fewer discrepancies and a clearer understanding of the financial impact of these regulations on freight rates. This collaboration aims to simplify the entire compliance journey, from initial reporting and data validation to managing compliance exposure, pooling, and financial settlements.
