Seacon Shipping, a company listed in Hong Kong, has announced the expansion of its tanker division with the purchase of two new chemical and oil tankers. The acquisition, made through its Singapore-based subsidiary, involves two vessels, to be named Golden Gerbera and Golden Osmanthus, from Oriental Prime Shipping. The total value of the transaction is $39.2 million, with each vessel costing $19.6 million. These newbuilds are anticipated to join the fleet in 2026.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this fleet expansion by Seacon Shipping indicates a potential increase in capacity for the transport of chemicals and oil products in the coming years. While the immediate impact on spot rates or available capacity is minimal due to the 2026 delivery timeline, it signals long-term growth in the chemical tanker segment. Forwarders involved in the movement of specialized liquid bulk cargo should monitor Seacon's operational deployment of these vessels as they enter service, which could offer new routing options or increased reliability on specific trade lanes for chemical shipments.
