Sallaum Lines has placed an order for two new dual-fuel Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) with Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. The contract includes an option for two additional vessels, potentially bringing the total to four. Each PCTC will have a capacity of 8,600 Car Equivalent Units (CEU), making them the largest vessels ever ordered by Sallaum Lines and a significant investment in its fleet expansion.
This strategic move aims to bolster Sallaum Lines' capacity in the global automotive logistics market. The adoption of dual-fuel technology underscores a commitment to more sustainable operations, aligning with industry trends towards reduced emissions.
For freight forwarders and shippers in the automotive sector, this order signals an increase in available capacity for vehicle transport. The larger, more efficient vessels could contribute to improved schedule reliability and potentially more competitive rates on key trade lanes, particularly for roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) cargo. The dual-fuel capability also suggests a focus on environmental compliance, which may be a factor for shippers with sustainability targets.
Further details regarding the delivery schedule and specific trade routes for these new vessels are anticipated.
