Chimbusco Pan Nation (CPN) has announced that its bunker barge, Zhong Ran 23, is the first vessel to be officially listed on the Hong Kong Marine Department's (MD) List of Quality Bunker Vessels. This listing falls under the recently launched Quality Bunker Operator Scheme.
The scheme, introduced earlier this month, aims to incentivize bunker operators to install and utilize Mass Flow Meter (MFM) systems on their bunkering vessels. The primary objective is to improve the accuracy, transparency, and overall service quality of bunkering operations within Hong Kong's maritime industry. To qualify for inclusion on this list, a bunker vessel's MFM system must undergo inspection and certification by an accredited third-party organization.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signifies an improvement in the reliability and transparency of bunker fuel procurement in Hong Kong. The mandatory use of MFM systems reduces discrepancies in fuel delivery, ensuring that vessels receive the exact quantity of fuel paid for. This can lead to more predictable operational costs and fewer disputes related to bunkering, ultimately enhancing schedule reliability and reducing potential delays for vessels calling at Hong Kong.
