Royal Caribbean has officially begun the construction of its seventh Oasis Class cruise ship with a keel-laying ceremony at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France. This new vessel is anticipated to be delivered in 2028, further expanding Royal Caribbean's capacity in the large cruise ship segment. It will join a fleet that includes the original Oasis of the Seas, launched in 2009, and subsequent ships in the class.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, news regarding cruise ship construction primarily indicates activity within the shipbuilding sector. While these vessels do not directly carry commercial cargo in the same way container ships do, their construction involves significant project cargo logistics for components and materials. The shipyard's ongoing work can also indirectly impact port operations through increased vessel traffic during construction and outfitting phases, though this is generally localized and managed.
