Kuehne+Nagel has announced an expanded partnership with Google Cloud, focusing on the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to decarbonize Google Cloud's air freight operations throughout 2026. This collaboration involves the procurement of up to 5.2 million liters of SAF, which is anticipated to mitigate approximately 12,600 tonnes of CO₂e emissions associated with Google Cloud's infrastructure shipments.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this initiative highlights a growing trend among major corporations to actively reduce their supply chain emissions, particularly in air cargo. The increased demand for SAF, driven by such partnerships, could influence its availability and pricing in the long term. Forwarders should anticipate more clients requesting low-carbon logistics solutions and consider integrating SAF options into their service offerings to remain competitive. This also signals potential shifts in carrier preferences towards partners who can facilitate SAF procurement, impacting capacity and routing decisions on specific lanes where SAF is more readily available.
