Chinese shipping company Huizhou Rongsheng Shipping has announced an order for four new stainless steel chemical tankers. The agreement with Ligong Shipbuilding (Ezhou), also known as WUT Guangda Shipbuilding, includes two vessels with a capacity of 25,900 deadweight tons (dwt) and two smaller units of 13,000 dwt. Deliveries for these new additions to the fleet are scheduled to occur throughout 2027 and 2028.
This order is part of Huizhou Rongsheng's broader strategy to renew and expand its existing fleet. While specific financial details of the transaction were not disclosed, the investment indicates a commitment to modernizing their operational capabilities in the chemical tanker segment.
For freight forwarders and shippers, an expansion in the chemical tanker fleet, particularly with newbuilds, generally suggests an increase in overall capacity for liquid bulk chemicals. This could lead to more stable or potentially competitive rates on relevant trade lanes in the long term, as more vessels become available. However, the impact will only be felt once these vessels are delivered and enter service in 2027-2028.
