Chinese shipowner EGPN Bulk Carrier has confirmed an order for two new MR product tankers with Chengxi Shipyard. This move represents a significant strategic shift for EGPN, traditionally known for its bulk carrier operations, as it deepens its involvement in the tanker market. The new vessels are expected to be delivered in 2029.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this order indicates a potential increase in future capacity for refined petroleum product transport. While the delivery is several years away, it reflects ongoing investment in the tanker segment, which could influence long-term rate stability and vessel availability for liquid bulk shipments. Forwarders handling petroleum products should monitor such fleet expansions as they contribute to the global supply of specialized tonnage.
