Greek shipping firm Enesel Group, controlled by the Lemos family, is making a notable return to the dry bulk market. The company has placed orders for eight new vessels, which will be constructed at two different shipyards in China. This expansion includes four ultramax bulk carriers, each with a capacity of 63,500 deadweight tons (dwt), to be built at Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry. Additionally, Enesel has ordered four capesize newbuildings, each boasting a capacity of 181,500 dwt, from Hengli Shipbuilding in Dalian.
For freight forwarders and supply chain analysts, this development indicates a potential increase in dry bulk capacity in the coming years. While the exact delivery timelines are not specified, new vessel additions typically contribute to overall fleet growth, which could influence freight rates and vessel availability for commodities like iron ore, coal, and grain. This strategic move by Enesel suggests a long-term positive outlook on the dry bulk market, potentially leading to more competitive pricing and diverse routing options for bulk cargo shippers once these vessels enter service.
