Priority 1 Group, the parent company of the struggling UK-based freight operator European Cargo, has initiated liquidation proceedings. As a result, the group plans to divest its fleet of semi-converted Airbus A340 cargo aircraft.
Priority 1 Logistics, a leasing and logistics firm, became the sole owner of European Cargo in 2024. European Cargo, based in Bournemouth, utilized these A340s for its freight operations.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signals a potential reduction in niche air cargo capacity, particularly for routes served by these specific aircraft types. The sale of these aircraft could lead to their redeployment or conversion for other uses, impacting the availability of certain cargo lift options in the market. Forwarders should monitor the disposition of these assets for any ripple effects on regional air cargo capacity or specialized freight services.
