BW LPG, a prominent owner and operator of LPG vessels, has finalized an agreement with Hyundai Heavy Industries for the construction of eight new 90,000 cubic meter (CBM) Panamax Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs). The total investment for these newbuildings is approximately $940 million, though the final cost is subject to technical specifications.
These new vessels are anticipated to be delivered progressively, commencing in 2027. This significant fleet expansion by BW LPG indicates a strategic move to bolster its capacity in the global liquefied petroleum gas shipping market.
For freight forwarders and supply chain analysts, this order signifies a future increase in available LPG shipping capacity, which could influence long-term freight rates and vessel availability for gas shipments. The introduction of modern, potentially more efficient vessels could also impact operational costs and service offerings in the LPG sector.
