Mammoet has successfully introduced its Mega Jack 10000 system, a new heavy-lifting solution, for the first time. The system was deployed to facilitate the weighing, jacking, and load-out of a substantial 33,000-tonne floating production unit (FPU). This complex operation was executed under a contract with Qingdao McDermott Wuchuan (QMW).
The FPU is intended for Woodside Energy's Scarborough project, located off the coast of Western Australia. The construction of this massive unit took place at QMW's shipyard in China. The FPU consists of two primary modules, including a deck support frame, which were integrated during the process.
For freight forwarders and project logistics managers, this development highlights the evolving capabilities in ultra-heavy lift and project cargo. The successful deployment of such specialized equipment by Mammoet indicates continued innovation in handling extremely large and heavy components for energy projects. This ensures that even the most massive modules can be transported from fabrication yards to their final offshore destinations, potentially impacting planning and execution for future large-scale breakbulk shipments by providing more robust and efficient handling options.
