Minor ports across Maharashtra State, India, are scheduled to cease all shipping activities and vessel navigation from May 26 to August 31, 2026. This measure is implemented annually to ensure safety during the region's foul weather monsoon season. The port of Jaigad is the sole exception and will remain operational.
This seasonal closure is a regular occurrence, reflecting the severe weather conditions experienced along the Indian coast during the monsoon months, which can pose significant risks to maritime operations.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this means that cargo movements typically handled by these minor ports will need to be rerouted to larger, all-weather ports in Maharashtra, such as Nhava Sheva (JNPT), or to other modes of transport during the specified period. This could lead to increased transit times, potential congestion at major ports, and possibly higher inland logistics costs for cargo originating from or destined for areas served by the affected minor ports. Forwarders should plan alternative logistics strategies for shipments during this three-month window.
