Shell Bahamas Power Company, a subsidiary of the energy major Shell, has commenced construction on a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal in The Bahamas. The groundbreaking ceremony followed the company's final investment decision (FID) for the project, signaling a significant expansion of Shell's energy infrastructure in the Caribbean.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development indicates potential future demand for specialized breakbulk and project cargo services. The construction phase of such a large-scale energy terminal typically involves the transport of heavy-lift components, oversized modules, and various industrial equipment. This could create opportunities for carriers and forwarders experienced in handling complex project logistics, particularly those with expertise in the Caribbean region. Furthermore, once operational, the terminal will support LNG shipping, which may influence regional energy supply chains and potentially create new trade routes or increase vessel traffic in Bahamian waters.
