Global Airfreight Rate Increases Moderate, US Exports See Uptick
After significant increases in prior months, global airfreight rates are largely stabilizing. However, the United States is experiencing rising export air cargo prices, contributing to a notable year-on-year increase in overall global rates, according to the TAC Index.
Global airfreight rates are showing signs of stabilization, with the rapid increases observed in the preceding two months largely moderating. This suggests the market is adapting to current operational conditions. Despite this overall trend, air cargo rates originating from the United States are currently on an upward trajectory.
While weekly rate increases have eased in many regions, the persistent rise in US export rates contributes to a significant year-on-year increase in global airfreight prices. This indicates that despite recent weekly moderation, the overall cost of air cargo remains substantially higher than the previous year.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this mixed market signal means that while capacity and pricing might be less volatile on certain lanes, particularly those not involving US exports, routes from the US could see continued cost pressures. Forwarders should closely monitor specific trade lanes, especially those originating in the US, for potential rate fluctuations and capacity constraints. Planning and booking well in advance for US export shipments may be advisable to mitigate rising costs.
