FedEx is committing €46 million ($54.1 million) to enlarge its road hub situated in Duiven, Netherlands. The investment involves purchasing and developing a property next to the existing facility, which will significantly increase the hub's operational capacity and improve efficiency across FedEx's extensive European road network. This strategic expansion is designed to strengthen the company's 'truck-fly-truck' model, where road transport feeds into and out of airfreight services.
This development aims to streamline the movement of goods across Europe, particularly for shipments that utilize a combination of air and road transport. For freight forwarders and operations managers, this expansion could lead to improved transit times and greater reliability for shipments moving through the Netherlands, especially those connecting to FedEx's air cargo network. Increased capacity at the Duiven hub may also offer more flexible routing options and potentially mitigate some ground transport bottlenecks in the region, supporting more efficient multimodal solutions.
