Brussels Airport, Liege Airport, and Ostend-Bruges Airport are working together to establish a common digital customs framework. This collaborative effort, facilitated by Air Cargo Belgium and LGG Connect, will enable a standardized system for exchanging import, export, and transit declarations directly with Belgian Customs through shared community platform principles. The new system is designed to support Belgium's shift from its current Paperless Customs and Excise system towards the European Union's Multi-Annual Strategic Plan for Customs (MASP-C) program.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this digitalization means a more efficient and standardized customs clearance process across key Belgian air cargo gateways. The move away from paper-based declarations is expected to reduce administrative burdens, accelerate processing times, and potentially improve the predictability of cargo movements. This standardization could also simplify compliance for forwarders operating across multiple Belgian airports, as they will interact with a single, harmonized digital system rather than disparate processes.
