Stena Line has announced it will deploy two company-owned vessels, the Stena Hibernia and Stena Scotia, on its dedicated freight service connecting Rotterdam and Harwich. These ships will take over from the presently chartered vessels, Mistral and Thuleland, which are scheduled to be returned to their respective owners, Godby Shipping and Wallenius SOL, by the close of the current year.
This strategic move by Stena Line to utilize its own fleet for the Rotterdam-Harwich route indicates a shift towards greater operational independence and potentially enhanced service consistency. By reducing reliance on third-party charters, the company gains more direct control over vessel scheduling, maintenance, and overall service quality.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this change is unlikely to cause immediate disruption. The primary impact will be on Stena Line's internal fleet management and cost structure. However, the use of owned vessels could lead to more stable capacity and potentially greater flexibility in response to market demands on this important North Sea corridor. It reinforces Stena Line's commitment to the route and its long-term operational strategy.
No further immediate changes to the service schedule or capacity are anticipated as a direct result of this vessel swap.
