SAL Heavy Lift recently executed two complex heavy-lift voyages using its vessel, MV Hilke, to transport 11 floating foundation components for BMS. These components were moved through the port of Hvide Sande in Denmark. The operation presented significant logistical challenges due to the port's strict limitations on vessel draft and length, requiring careful planning and execution for cargo units weighing up to 596 tonnes.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this highlights the specialized capabilities required for project cargo, particularly in regions with infrastructure constraints. Such operations often involve detailed engineering, precise scheduling, and close coordination with port authorities to navigate restrictions. The successful completion of this project demonstrates the importance of selecting carriers with suitable vessel specifications and proven expertise in handling oversized and heavy-lift cargo in challenging environments. It also underscores potential bottlenecks in smaller ports for large-scale renewable energy projects, necessitating thorough route and port surveys during the planning phase.
