Swiss intermodal transport provider Hupac, in collaboration with Spanish company TPNOVA, has officially opened a new intermodal rail terminal situated in La Llagosta, close to Barcelona. The facility has been operational since January 2026 and possesses an annual capacity of 130,000 loading units. This new infrastructure is designed to significantly enhance rail freight transport between Spain and other European destinations.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development offers increased capacity and improved reliability for intermodal rail services connecting the Iberian Peninsula with the rest of Europe. It provides an alternative to road transport, potentially reducing transit times and offering a more sustainable option for cargo movement. The added capacity could also help alleviate potential congestion at existing terminals and provide more flexibility in routing shipments.
