Marine fuel sales in Fujairah experienced an upward trend in September, reaching a total of 236,285 cubic meters. This figure represents a recovery from the 225,767 cubic meters recorded in August. This September volume is the highest reported since the onset of the US/Iran conflict at the end of February.
Despite the overall increase, sales of Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (LSFO) 380 cSt saw a slight reduction, dropping to 144,053 cubic meters from 149,202 cubic meters in August. However, this is significantly lower than the 371,840 cubic meters reported for September of the previous year (2025). Conversely, LSFO 180 cSt sales experienced a substantial increase, rising to 498 cubic meters in September from a mere 70 cubic meters in August.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, fluctuating bunker sales in a key bunkering hub like Fujairah can indicate shifts in vessel traffic or bunkering strategies in the region. While the immediate impact on freight rates might be indirect, consistent changes in fuel demand can influence bunker prices, which are a significant component of overall shipping costs. Monitoring these trends is crucial for forecasting operational expenses and optimizing routing decisions, especially given the geopolitical context influencing the region.
