Egala, a European capacity partner, has substantially increased its vehicle fleet by integrating 175 new Mercedes-Benz trucks. The recent acquisition comprises 155 Actros 1845 LS tractor units and 20 advanced, fully electric eActros 600 tractor units. This investment not only boosts the company's operational capacity across Europe but also represents a pivotal first step towards incorporating battery-electric vehicles into its heavy-duty transport operations.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development signifies a potential increase in available road freight capacity, particularly for routes serviced by Egala. The introduction of electric trucks, while currently a smaller portion of the total order, indicates a growing trend towards sustainable transport solutions. This could lead to more eco-friendly options for shippers, potentially impacting route planning and emissions reporting requirements in the future. As electric truck technology matures and infrastructure expands, forwarders might see more opportunities for green logistics services, though initial adoption may focus on specific, shorter-haul routes or dedicated contracts.
