CMA CGM has announced the integration of the CMA CGM Orsay, a new 24,212 TEU LNG dual-fuel containership, into its operational fleet. This vessel is the third in a series of ten ultra-large containerships, following the CMA CGM Notre Dame and CMA CGM Pantheon. The CMA CGM Orsay is designed to operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG), aligning with the carrier's sustainability initiatives.
This new vessel will be deployed on CMA CGM's FAL3 service, which connects major ports between Asia and Europe. The addition of such a large capacity vessel on this significant trade lane is part of CMA CGM's ongoing fleet modernization and expansion strategy.
For freight forwarders and shippers, the deployment of the CMA CGM Orsay signifies increased capacity on the Asia-Europe trade route. This could potentially contribute to more stable booking options and improved schedule reliability, especially for high-volume shipments. The use of LNG as fuel also supports shippers' efforts to reduce their supply chain's carbon footprint, as LNG offers lower emissions compared to traditional marine fuels.
