Air France KLM Martinair Cargo has initiated a project to enlarge and automate its specialized perishables center located at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG). This significant undertaking is being executed in partnership with Lödige Industries, a provider of logistics systems. The primary objective of this investment is to substantially increase the facility's capacity for handling temperature-sensitive goods and to improve the overall efficiency of its cargo operations.
For freight forwarders and their operations teams, this development signifies potential improvements in the speed and reliability of air freight for perishable commodities. Increased automation and capacity at a major European hub like CDG could lead to faster processing times, reduced dwell times, and potentially better schedule reliability for perishable shipments. This could translate into more competitive transit times and improved service quality for clients dealing with fresh produce, pharmaceuticals, and other time-critical goods. It may also help mitigate risks associated with delays in the cold chain.
