The Dutch transport and logistics association, Transport en Logistiek Nederland (TLN), reports that the ongoing issues with the western Suurhoff Bridge on the A15 highway are imposing substantial daily costs on the sector. Following the discovery of cracks in a main support beam, the bridge's closure is causing approximately 30-minute delays for the estimated 15,000 trucks that use this route daily to access the Maasvlakte area near Rotterdam.
This disruption translates to an estimated financial loss of €600,000 per day for the transport industry. For freight forwarders and operations managers, this means increased transit times for road freight moving to and from the critical port facilities at Maasvlakte. The additional delays will likely lead to higher operational costs, potential penalties for late deliveries, and a need for revised scheduling and route planning. Shippers may experience supply chain slowdowns and increased transport expenses as carriers factor in the extended travel times and fuel consumption.
