Stena Line has announced an order for two new E-Flexer hybrid ferries, which will become the sixth and seventh vessels of this type in their fleet. These new ships are scheduled to commence operations on the Gothenburg–Frederikshavn route in 2030. The design incorporates hybrid propulsion technology, enabling them to run on both conventional fuels and electricity. Furthermore, they are being built with the capability to transition to 100% electric power once the necessary shore-side charging infrastructure is established.
This strategic investment will replace the existing vessels, Stena Danica and Stena Jutlandica, which have served the Gothenburg–Frederikshavn route for many years, with Stena Danica having been in service since 1984. The move aligns with Stena Line's broader strategy to modernize its fleet and enhance environmental performance.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development signifies a continued investment in the capacity and reliability of key European ferry routes.
