Stellantis has announced to its workforce that the Brampton assembly plant in Ontario, Canada, has no future and will be permanently closed. The facility has been inactive since the latter part of 2023. This decision comes after the automaker rescinded its intentions to manufacture the Jeep Compass at the Brampton site.
The reversal of production plans was reportedly influenced by the potential imposition of tariffs on vehicles manufactured outside the United States. Such tariffs could significantly impact the economic viability of producing certain models in Canada for the U.S. market.
