P2H2 has officially launched commercial production of green hydrogen within the NextGen District of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in Belgium. The new facility employs a 500 kW system, which incorporates two 250 kW anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyser stacks. This marks the first commercial application of 250 kW AEM electrolyser stacks, representing a significant technological milestone.
Initially, the system is projected to yield up to 70 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. This output will primarily serve regional gas supplier Holthausen and other clients located within the port's vicinity. The Port Authority highlighted that this commissioning coincides with P2H2's efforts to gather operational data from the Antwerp site.
For freight forwarders and logistics operations, the availability of green hydrogen at a major European port like Antwerp-Bruges could eventually contribute to decarbonization efforts within the supply chain. While direct impacts on immediate freight rates or capacity are unlikely, this initiative supports the broader shift towards sustainable fuels and energy sources for maritime and inland transport, potentially influencing future fuel costs and regulatory compliance for green logistics services.
