Panama has finalized the acquisition of Petroterminal de Panama (PTP), an essential oil pipeline system. This infrastructure plays a critical role in the global oil supply chain by allowing Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), which are too large to navigate the Panama Canal, to transport crude oil across the Panamanian Isthmus. VLCCs can discharge their cargo on one side of the continent, and the oil is then piped to the other side for reloading onto other vessels.
