The Port of Moerdijk, in collaboration with ProRail, is initiating a pilot project to introduce a neutral rail feeder service. This program aims to streamline rail freight operations within the port area by appointing an independent operator to manage local train movements. This operator will be responsible for connecting the main rail network near Lage Zwaluwe directly to the various businesses and terminals located within the Moerdijk port complex.
The primary objective of this initiative is to significantly increase the volume of rail traffic, with a target to triple the current number of train movements. By centralizing and optimizing these local rail services, the port expects to improve efficiency, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance overall connectivity for freight moving in and out of the area.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development could lead to more reliable and potentially faster rail connections for cargo moving through Moerdijk.
