Maersk officially opened a new container depot in Kribi, Cameroon, on September 21. This facility spans 16,000 square meters and has a capacity for 1,500 TEU. The primary objective of this investment is to improve the availability of containers within the region, thereby reducing existing bottlenecks in the logistics chain and facilitating smoother import and export flows across West Africa.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this new depot signifies a potential improvement in equipment availability, particularly for shipments originating from or destined for Cameroon and the broader West African market. Increased container supply at a strategic port like Kribi could lead to reduced demurrage and detention charges, faster turnaround times, and more reliable scheduling. It may also help stabilize local container repositioning costs, offering more predictable pricing for shippers.
