The Global Initiative (GI), a joint effort by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Ipieca (the global oil and gas industry association for environmental and social issues), is commemorating three decades of dedicated work in oil spill preparedness and response. Since its inception, the GI has played a crucial role in facilitating the implementation of the IMO's International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Co-operation (OPRC Convention).
