The Arkervaart, an important inland waterway passing beneath the Hardenbergerbrug in Nijkerk, Netherlands, has been shut down for all vessel traffic. This measure, implemented for safety reasons, also extends to the Arkemheensepad and Arkersluisweg, which are cycle and pedestrian paths located directly under the bridge. The Hardenbergerbrug, carrying the A28 highway, was initially closed to road traffic for at least 48 hours starting Monday afternoon.
For freight forwarders and logistics operations, this dual closure means significant disruptions. Inland waterway transport using the Arkervaart will need to find alternative routes, potentially causing delays and increased transit times for cargo moving through this region. Road freight on the A28 is already affected, and now the inability to use the underpass further complicates local access and diversions. Shippers should anticipate longer lead times and potentially higher costs for deliveries to and from areas dependent on this bridge and waterway.
