TX Logistik and Greenbrier Europe have announced a collaboration to improve the efficiency and accessibility of trailer transport via rail. The partnership was formalized on September 23rd at the InnoTrans railway trade fair in Berlin. Under this agreement, Greenbrier Europe will be responsible for manufacturing and leasing the NIK (Neutral Intermodal Key) transshipment system.
The initial order placed by TX Logistik includes 50 platforms for the NIK system. This initiative is designed to facilitate the seamless transfer of road trailers onto rail networks, thereby promoting intermodal freight solutions.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development signifies a potential increase in intermodal rail capacity and flexibility for trailer movements within Europe. The NIK system could reduce transshipment times and costs, making rail a more attractive option for certain lanes, especially for cargo traditionally moved by road. This could lead to optimized routing strategies and potentially more stable transit times for trailer-based shipments, reducing reliance on long-haul trucking.
