Belgian shipping company Exmar has finalized significant multi-year agreements with Côte d'Ivoire Energies (CI-Energies) and Société Nationale d'Opérations Pétrolières de la Côte d'Ivoire (Petroci). These contracts involve the provision and operation of a 152,000 cubic meter (cbm) floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at the Port of Abidjan. The primary objective of this project is to enhance Côte d'Ivoire's gas supply capabilities and meet the nation's growing electricity demand. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports through this FSRU are anticipated to begin in the third quarter of 2027.
This development is part of Côte d'Ivoire's broader strategy to diversify its energy sources and ensure stable power generation, crucial for economic growth. FSRUs offer a flexible and rapid solution for importing LNG, bypassing the need for extensive onshore regasification terminal construction.
