Diana Shipping Inc., a global entity focused on dry bulk vessel ownership and bareboat charter-in, has announced a new time charter contract. The agreement is with Aquavita International S.A. for the Kamsarmax dry bulk vessel, m/v Astarte. The charter rate is established at US$17,000 per day.
This charter is anticipated to generate approximately US$4.59 million in gross revenue for the minimum scheduled period of the contract. Such agreements provide a stable revenue stream for vessel owners, contributing to their financial predictability.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this news indicates continued activity in the dry bulk sector. While not directly impacting container rates or capacity, the chartering of dry bulk vessels like the Astarte reflects demand for bulk commodities, which can indirectly influence overall shipping market sentiment and potentially, port congestion for certain types of cargo. Stable charter rates for dry bulk vessels contribute to the operational costs of carriers, which can eventually trickle down to overall freight pricing structures.
