COSCO Shipping's Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT) has been granted a Certified Receiver Licence by the Greek Customs Authority. This new authorization enables PCT to handle customs clearance for rail-bound containers directly within the terminal premises, eliminating the need for cargo to be transported to external customs offices for inspection and documentation.
This development is part of a broader effort to enhance the efficiency of the Piraeus port as a gateway for cargo moving into Central and Eastern Europe via rail. By integrating customs processes, the terminal aims to reduce dwell times and accelerate the flow of goods.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this means a significant improvement in transit times for cargo utilizing the Piraeus-to-Europe rail corridor.
