Viking has officially signed contracts with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for the construction of two new cruise ships. These vessels are slated for delivery in 2032 and represent the exercise of options that Viking initially announced in April 2025. The construction will take place at Fincantieri's Ancona shipyard in Italy.
This agreement further strengthens the enduring relationship between Viking and Fincantieri, which has now seen a total of 28 vessels ordered or delivered over their partnership. The continuous investment in new tonnage highlights Viking's expansion strategy within the cruise sector.
For freight forwarders, this news primarily signals continued activity in the shipbuilding sector, which can indirectly influence demand for specialized logistics services for ship components and equipment. While not directly impacting cargo rates or capacity for general freight, it indicates long-term investment in maritime infrastructure, which can have ripple effects across the broader shipping industry.
