As of June 2026, a substantial majority, over 70%, of both operational and upcoming carbon capture facilities globally are associated with energy assets. This highlights the oil and gas sector's ongoing commitment to decarbonization as a critical pathway for reducing emissions in hard-to-abate industries, including power generation, cement, and steel production.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, the continued investment in CCUS by the oil and gas sector signals potential future demand for specialized logistics services. These projects often involve the transport of large, heavy, and oversized components for new facilities, as well as the ongoing movement of captured CO2 for utilization or storage. This could translate into opportunities for project cargo and heavy-lift logistics, requiring careful planning for routes, permits, and specialized equipment.
