Grimaldi Group has officially received the Grande Pacifico, a new Pure Car & Truck Carrier (PCTC) with a capacity of 9,800 car equivalent units (CEU). This vessel marks the thirteenth delivery in a series of fifteen ammonia-ready ships ordered by the company. It is also the first of five larger sister PCTCs commissioned from China Merchants Heavy Industries Jiangsu, making it the largest PCTC in Grimaldi's current fleet.
The Grande Pacifico's design represents an evolution from earlier 9,000 CEU vessels delivered by the same Chinese shipyard, offering enhanced cargo capacity. The vessel is engineered to transport a variety of vehicles, including electric and conventionally fueled cars and trucks.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, the addition of the Grande Pacifico signifies increased capacity for Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) cargo, particularly for the automotive sector. This expanded fleet capacity could lead to greater flexibility in booking vehicle shipments and potentially more stable rates on relevant trade lanes, especially those served by Grimaldi. The vessel's ammonia-ready designation also highlights a move towards future-proof, lower-emission shipping, which may become a factor in carrier selection for environmentally conscious shippers.
