Duisport, the operator of the Port of Duisburg, has announced the acquisition of a 20% share in Maxi Terminal Hamm (MTH). This strategic investment is designed to expand Duisport's logistics network, gaining access to a crucial intermodal hub located in the eastern Ruhr region of Germany.
The primary objective of this acquisition is to strengthen the connection between industries in Westphalia and international markets. The Hamm terminal serves as a vital link, facilitating the movement of goods through combined transport solutions.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this development signifies enhanced intermodal options for cargo moving to and from the Westphalian industrial region. The increased integration with Duisport's network could lead to more streamlined routing, potentially improving transit times and reliability for rail and barge connections to and from the broader European hinterland. This could also offer more competitive multimodal solutions, reducing reliance on road-only transport for certain corridors.
