Classification society DNV has published a new position paper and introduced a Resilience Framework, advocating for the energy sector to treat infrastructure resilience as a strategic imperative rather than merely a compliance exercise. This move comes in response to the increasingly complex and dynamic threat landscape, which includes various forms of malicious attacks.
The new framework outlines a four-step cyclical process: analyzing risks, prioritizing necessary investments, implementing protective measures, and subsequently checking and validating their effectiveness. This cycle is designed to be applied across five critical dimensions of an organization: its structure, personnel, physical assets, IT and cyber systems, and supply chain. The accompanying position paper provides specific examples of threats, such as those posed by malicious actors.
