The Baltic Exchange recently announced the appointment of Sigrid Teig as its new Deputy Chief Executive Officer. This decision follows a comprehensive nine-month recruitment process. Teig is expected to assume her new responsibilities later this year.
Her background includes a role as Director of Strategic Customer Partnerships at Marcura, a maritime technology and services firm. Prior to that, she held several positions at Western Bulk, a dry bulk operator, including Chief Process Officer and Corporate Risk Manager. Mark Jackson, CEO of the Baltic Exchange, highlighted Teig's strong experience in commercial leadership, stakeholder management, and shipping markets as key assets that will support the Baltic Exchange's prominent position in benchmark administration.
For freight forwarders and supply chain professionals, this appointment signifies a reinforcement of leadership within a key institution that provides crucial shipping market benchmarks, such as the Baltic Dry Index. While not directly impacting immediate rates or capacity, strong leadership at the Baltic Exchange can contribute to the stability and reliability of the indices used for market analysis and freight derivatives, indirectly aiding in risk management and strategic planning for dry bulk and potentially other shipping segments.
