Ocean carriers ZIM Line and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) have announced the inclusion of the Port of Jacksonville (JAXPORT) into their established weekly ZCP-Amberjack container service. This strategic expansion will strengthen Jacksonville's direct links to major container hubs across Asia.
A key feature of this service enhancement is the ability for LNG dual-fueled vessels, which are deployed on the ZCP-Amberjack route, to bunker liquefied natural gas (LNG) at Jacksonville. This makes JAXPORT a more attractive option for carriers investing in greener shipping technologies.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this new direct call at Jacksonville means improved transit times and increased capacity options for cargo moving between Asia and the U.S. Southeast. The availability of LNG bunkering also signals a commitment to sustainable shipping practices, which may be a factor for shippers with environmental goals. The ZIM Sapphire was the inaugural vessel to call at Jacksonville under this expanded service, departing on July 11 en route to Kingston, Jamaica.
