Vitol Bunkers has officially started commercial bunkering services at Gwadar Port in Pakistan. This new offering, which began on July 14, provides vessels with high sulphur fuel oil (HSFO), very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO), and low sulphur marine gasoil (LSMGO). This development represents a significant milestone, as it is the first time in Gwadar Port's history that commercial bunkering services are available.
The launch follows a successful initial operation where Vitol Bunker's 6,800 DWT bunkering barge, Marine Ista, supplied 2,500 metric tonnes of VLSFO to the LNG carrier Enugu. This expansion of services aims to enhance the port's capabilities and attract more commercial vessel traffic.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, the availability of bunkering services at Gwadar Port could offer new routing flexibility, especially for vessels transiting the region. It may reduce the need for vessels to divert to other ports for refueling, potentially saving time and operational costs. This could also contribute to Gwadar's growing importance as a maritime hub, influencing future trade lanes and port calls in the Arabian Sea.
