The Netherlands has reported a significant reduction in vehicle crime during the first six months of 2026. The number of heavy goods vehicle (HGV) thefts decreased by 39% compared to the same period in the previous year. Additionally, thefts of light commercial vehicles, such as vans, saw a 5% decline. These figures are detailed in the semi-annual report, "Insight into Vehicle Crime," published by the Vehicle Crime Insurance Bureau (VbV).
For freight forwarders and logistics operators, this trend indicates a positive development in cargo security within the Netherlands. Reduced vehicle theft can lead to lower insurance premiums for fleets and cargo, fewer disruptions to delivery schedules due to stolen assets, and enhanced overall supply chain reliability. This improvement may also reflect more effective security measures implemented by transport companies or increased law enforcement efforts.
