TMC Compressors (TMC) has announced a contract with Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) to provide marine compressed air systems for ten medium-range (MR) tankers. These vessels, each with a capacity of 50,000 DWT, are currently under construction for Central Group. The agreement includes the delivery of comprehensive marine compressed air systems, featuring both service and control air compressors, for each of the ten product tankers.
This development highlights the ongoing investment in new vessel construction that adheres to stricter environmental regulations. The new tankers are designed to comply with the latest international standards, including the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Tier III emission requirements, and will integrate energy-saving technologies.
For freight forwarders and shippers, the addition of these new, more energy-efficient tankers to the global fleet could contribute to a slight increase in overall capacity for refined petroleum products. The focus on IMO Tier III compliance and energy efficiency in newbuilds suggests a continued industry trend towards greener shipping, which may influence future operational costs and routing decisions as carriers seek to optimize fuel consumption and meet regulatory targets.
